The Pandemic and its Consequences - Insights from Business and Economics

This module is designed as an ONLINE COURSE for advanced undergraduate and graduate students interested in economics and business management in interdisciplinary context. It provides a unique combination of analyzing national economies and businesses, and focuses on challenges a pandemic means in its economic, social and medical dimensions.

The Covid-19 pandemic motivated governments and managers around the globe to impose drastic measures. More than one year after the global outbreak of the pandemic, we can assess the first managerial, economic and societal consequences of these measures. The interdisciplinary lecture programme looks at entrepreneurial opportunities of the pandemic and its consequences for customer behavior, sustainability and risk management, and corporate crisis communication. We also analyze consequences of the pandemic on economies and their public budgets. We finally focus on the indirect consequences of human capital loss, health deterioration, labour market entry during an economic crisis,
and gender inequality induced by the pandemic.

The course will be held in live per ZOOM, but the sessions will be uploaded on our digital learning platfom, so that the students can easily download each slot afterwards and watch it later, e.g. due to time shifts.

After completing the module successfully, students will have a broad understanding of how to capture the idea of pandemic in its managerial, economic and societal aspects.

An online guided tour of the city of Würzburg will give you an idea where we are and where you are warmly welcome to come and study after the pandemic comes to an end.

There are no prerequistes except for a basic knowledge in the fields of business management and economics. The language of instruction is English, thus language proficiency on an advanced Intermediate level (B2) is a prerequisite for participation. You can assess your language skills here (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) in order to get orientation as to your language skills.

Four weeks prior to the Summer Module Course students will receive a course reader in electronic form.
