This Seminar is part of the Applied Analytics and Optimization module. As such we recommend to participate in the lecture Planen und Entscheiden.

Supply Chain Management is an area where many optimization problems have to be solved. In this seminar, students learn to (1) structure relevant decision problems in supply chain management, (2) build a practically relevant mathematical model, (3) implement and solve the problem with Microsoft™ Excel®, and (4) interpret the results. Although spread-sheet models (e.g. based on Excel) are not suitable for very large and data intense optimization problems in supply chain management, they offer an intuitive access to analytical problem solving and optimization, and do not require any programming skills. In practice, they oftentimes turn out to be very useful when quick and pragmatic problem solving is required.
