Course content:

The course is focused on the modelling of transportation processes in the logistics. 

The course consists of 12 lectures with the following planned topics:

1. The four step transportation model: data, trip generation modelling, trip distribution, modal split and modelling of trips assignment

2. Representation of transportation problems on networks through nodes, links, origin/destination pairs, demands, costs, path flows, and link flows

3. Concepts of optimization, competition, and equilibrium on a network: user-optimization versus system-optimization

4. Assignment modeling:

  • All or Northing assignment
  • Stochastic traffic assignment
  • Incremental assignment
  • Congested Assignment (user equilibrium and system optimum assignment)

5. The Braess paradox

6. Policy interventions - toll patterns – link tolls and path tolls

7. Spatial price equilibrium problems in supply chains
