Work Placement Supervision

If you are interested in a work placement, you are welcome to use the work placement offers. Bachelor students can have their work placement recognized as a partial achievement in the area of transferable skills.

Crediting

A crediting of 5 ECTS ungraded (3-6 weeks work placement; 10 pages report) or of 10 ECTS ungraded (more than 6 weeks work placement; 15 pages report) is possible. Prerequisite for a crediting are tax-related points in the work placement.

Work placement report and presenatation

The report is in two parts. 50 percent of the report includes the work placement report itself (presentation of the company, activities). The other half of the report deals with a scientific topic. This should be related to the actual work placement activity (What do you encounter during the work placement?).
Suggested topics should be discussed with the work placement supervisor.

Examples:

  1. During the work placement, self-disclosures were processed. The topic of the scientific part deals with tax offences and tax irregularities.
  2. The work placement takes place in a transfer pricing department. The scientific part then deals with transfer pricing.

A change of weighting is only possible in favour of the scientific part. In extreme cases, one or two pages about the actual work placement are sufficient. The required number of pages must still be completed. Accordingly, the scientific part then comprises eight to nine or 13 to 14 pages.

The scientific part of the report must follow the formal requirements of a scientific thesis. Important: Scientific papers that are based on internet sources only or that only contain one or two sources will not be accepted. Background: With regard to writing the thesis, the handling of literature in general and literature research in particular should be practiced, and the importance of a formally correct paper should be conveyed.

The work placement report is presented in a five to ten minute presentation. You can give a short description of the work placement itself (one slide), but the main part of the presentation should be about the scientific part. For this purpose, a PowerPoint presentation in PDF format on a USB stick should be brought along. The technology is completely provided by the chair.

Time schedule/Deadlines

If you are interested in a work placement supervision, it is recommended to contact the chair already before the work placement. For this purpose please contact Sophie Bakowies.

Registration: An informal registration at the chair is sufficient. The following information must be provided:

  • Name, first name
  • Address
  • E-mail address that is regularly checked (important!)
  • Student ID number
  • Address work placement company
  • Work placement duration

The report will be written in the semester following the semester break in which the work placement takes place.

Discussing the topic: Already during your work placement, think about which topic (approximate orientation) you could choose. At the beginning of the reporting semester, you will receive an e-mail from your supervisor asking you to contact him or her to discuss a topic. A deadline is indicated from which the processing time begins. You can already contact your supervisor during the work placement to discuss the topic. If the topic is fixed, you can already start working on it. The official processing time remains the same. The processing time is four weeks. The report is to be submitted unbound and in one copy to the chair (not to the Examination Office!).

The presentation usually takes place one to three weeks after the report is submitted. At the latest at the time of the presentation, a confirmation of the work placement (contract, confirmation, certificate, etc.) must be handed in, from which the duration of the work placement can be seen. This can be submitted in person, by post or by e-mail.
