Two discussion papers accepted for publication in journals

The DIW Discussion Paper by Johannes Geyer, Peter Haan, Svenja Lorenz, Thomas Zwick, and Mona Bruns with the title “The Role of Labor Demand in the Labor Market Effects of a Pension Reform” (https://www.diw.de/documents/publikationen/73/diw_01.c.696461.de/dp1827.pdf) was accepted for publication in Industrial Relations – A Journal of Economy and Society. This paper shows that labor demand plays an important role in employees´ labor market reactions to a pension reform in Germany. Employers with a high share of older worker inflow compared with their younger worker inflow, employers in sectors with few investments in research and development, and employers in sectors with a high share of collective bargaining agreements allow their employees to stay employed for longer after the reform. These employers offer their older employees partial retirement instead of forcing them into unemployment before early retirement because the older employees incur low substitution and high dismissal costs.

Also the ZEW Discussion Paper 20-056 by Svenja Lorenz and Thomas Zwick with the title "Money also is sunny in a retiree´s world" (see http://ftp.zew.de/pub/zew-docs/dp/dp20056.pdf) was accepted for publication in the Journal for Labour Market Research. This paper shows that labor income plays an important positive role for the decision to work after retirement. Especially individuals who have the chance to substantially supplement their relatively low pension entitlements have a higher earnings elasticity. Men are more attracted by earnings incentives than women. Also individuals who work until retirement can easier be attracted by financial incentives to work after retirement than those employees with bridge options.
