First steps at the beginning of your studies
After enrollment, each student receives a JMU account (log-in data) as well as a personal e-mail address to which all e-mails from the university are sent. This is where you will receive important information about dates and events.
You can find out how to set up your so-called "Stud-Mail" and forward it to your private mail address here at the Computer Center.
Before you can use your new student ID card (e.g. as a semester ticket), you must validate the card (JMU card). Only then is the card valid. You can find information about this on this info page. You will find the validation machine in the right wing of the Neue Uni on the ground floor.
Please note that the semester ticket can only be used from the beginning of the semester, i.e. from October 1 in the winter semester and from April 1 in the summer semester. Do not forget that the validation has to be done anew for each semester.
You can use the JMU card to pay in the cafeteria, canteen or even at the printer. So that you always know how much money you have loaded, download the app "Mensacard". Using NFC, you can quickly check your credit balance on your cell phone before going to the dining hall.
Haven't received your student ID card yet? If you have any questions about your student ID card, please contact the Chip Card Office: kartenservice@uni-wuerzburg.de
Take a look around! :)
So you will never miss an appointment. On the Wiwi homepage you will find a calendar.
For all first-year students we offer an orientation tutorial before the semester starts (BOT & MOT), which is highly recommended. There you will receive all important information about the start of your studies and get to know your future fellow students.
Students of cooperative study programs should also inform themselves about the dates of the respective other faculty. For example, the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science offers -> MINT pre-courses.
In addition, the Central Student Advisory Service might have some information or event available for you, such as "First Steps into Studying".
Business Information Systems or Business Mathematics students should take STEM prerequisite courses offered by the School of Mathematics and Computer Science.
The Faculty of Business and Economics does not offer prerequisite courses.
However, what we strongly recommend to all our students is to participate in the orientation tutorial, which will provide you with important information about your start and the contents of your studies. In addition, you will get to know your fellow students and the location of our faculty better.
For master students who want to improve their IBL knowledge, the course (10526930) Introduction to Industrial Management is offered on demand. For further information, please contact the Chair of Business Management and Industrial Management.
The most important document of all is probably your examination regulations (PO).
These consist of a general part, which is the same for all Bachelor's and Master's programs at JMU (General Study and Examination Regulations (ASPO)) and a subject-related part, the subject-specific regulations. These are the guides to your studies and should always be referred to. There you will find all the specifications for the work you have to do, the hurdles and possible module assignments.
-> Subject-specific regulations Bachelor
-> Subject-specific regulations Master
These can be found on the website of the respective degree program (only available in German).
The version that is relevant for you is usually the one that was the most recent at the time you started your studies (indicated in brackets in WueStudy). To find out whether you can receive credit for modules that are newly offered during your studies, please contact your academic advisor or check your study planner.
Your study planner in WueStudy maps your PO (if logged in) and shows what is offered in that semester if you select the correct semester. You can view events and exams.
First of all, the most important thing:
As a first-semester student, you do not need to create a class schedule before the start of lectures.
- For lectures at the Wiwi-Fakultät a registration is generally not necessary.
- For the respective tutorials, registration is only necessary at the appropriate time (not before the 1st week of lectures) (-> directly via the corresponding course in the online course catalog WueStudy). However, you will be informed about this again. The background is as follows: Tutorials should serve to repeat the contents of the lectures in small groups and to apply them by means of exercises. If there was a free choice of places, the popular times would simply be too overloaded, so that places are allocated here. For this reason, only the times of the lectures are fixed and available for you to view.

- Master Management und Login: Master Management

Please use WueStudy to register and book courses.
With WueStudy you manage your studies. Here you can maintain personal data, do your re-registration for the next semester, download certificates, view your grade overview, do your semester planning and do your exam registrations (/deregistrations).
Your study planner in WueStudy maps your examination regulations (PO) (when logged in). Once you have selected the correct reference semester above, you can display courses and exams. For this, select "show only offered" in the upper right corner. If you expand a module with "+", the following symbols can become visible: Book = event, Medal = exam. If you click on "+" again and parallel groups are displayed, your selection will take place. Here you can also book events (if the button is visible) as well as register exams (if the button is visible).
Please also note the information provided in each case. The medal symbol can also show an exam before the start of lectures (so-called "Nachprüfungen") for the selected semester.
Helpful instructions and explanatory videos for WueStudy can be found here.
Certificate printing: Some offices (health insurance, child benefit office, office for educational grants, etc.) will require matriculation certificates from you. You can download and print out various certificates yourself via WueStudy. You can find information about this here.
WueCampus is the platform where information as well as teaching materials are made available for you.
You automatically join the Wiwi-Studienberatung course room at the beginning of your first semester at the Wiwi faculty. Mails from the Office of the Dean of Studies can be sent to you (your Studmail) through this. You will also receive general information concerning your studies there.
In addition, you should enroll in the appropriate course room for each module you are taking in a semester (if not already enrolled). Here you will be provided with the course materials for your course.
You can find out how to gain access to the university's WLAN network by contacting the computer center.
They will also tell you how to set up a VPN configuration so that you can log into the university network from other locations.
A small additional tip: at the computer center you can also get a Microsoft Office license and other software for students.
The Studierendenwerk provides advice on everything related to living and financing.
