Business Management and Economics (B.Sc.)

Before you start your degree programme, you have the opportunity to take part in one of our Bachelor orientation tutorials (BOT). There you will receive valuable insights and information about the Bachelor's degree programme at the Faculty of Business Management and Economics before the start of the semester. 
The aim is to deal with topics, questions and problems that experience has shown to occur particularly at the beginning of the degree programme and thus optimally prepare students for the start of their studies.

All bachelor students must complete the compulsory modules, which amount to 90 ECTS points. These extend over the first three semesters and include the following areas:

30 ECTS points in methods (mathematics, statistics, business informatics), 30 ECTS credits in business administration, 25 ECTS points in economics and 5 ECTS points in law.

Fundamentals and Orientation Examination (GOP)

As of the winter semester 2023/24, the student must pass 15 ECTS points from the modules assigned to the first subject semester by the end of the first subject semester. If this requirement is not met, the GOP is failed for the first time and can be repeated once by the examinee acquiring the missing ECTS points from the aforementioned modules at the next possible examination date, usually at the beginning of the following semester. If this requirement is also not met, the GOP is definitively not passed, resulting in a final failure of the Bachelor's degree program in Business and Economics.

Further Control Examination (WKP)

As of the winter semester 2023/24, the student must pass 30 ECTS points from modules assigned to the first and second subject semester by the end of the second subject semester. If this requirement is not met, the WKP is failed for the first time and can be repeated once by the examinee acquiring the missing ECTS points from the aforementioned modules at the next possible examination date, usually at the beginning of the following semester, and proving this to the examination office. If this requirement is also not met, the Further Control Examination is definitively not passed, resulting in a final failure of the Bachelor's degree program in Business and Economics.

From the third semester onwards, the mandatory elective modules offer the opportunity to set individual focal points. These are taken in addition to the compulsory modules. A total of 60 ECTS points must be earned here from a pool of modules defined in the study and examination regulations (subject-specific regulations). In addition, the acquisition of general and subject-specific key qualifications in the amount of 20 ECTS points, such as courses on language and regional studies or activities as a tutor. Business or economics internships can also be included in this area.

The fifth or sixth semester is particularly suitable for a stay abroad. The Faculty of Business Management and Economics and the International Office offer a variety of exchange programs for this purpose.

In the last semester, a written thesis must be completed. The thesis takes 8 weeks to complete.

Examinations

The module examinations in the compulsory subjects of the Faculty of Business Management and Economics take place twice a year for each course. You have the possibility to take the exam at the end of the semester in which you attended the course or at the beginning of the following semester.
The module examinations for elective subjects and key qualifications can usually be taken at the end of each semester.

The combination of business administration and economics to form the subject area of economics enables students to fully grasp economic relationships, analyze them and be able to translate them into operational action. For those who would still like to specialize, the Master's program offers the opportunity to choose between the BWL or VWL Master's program and to round off the sound, broad knowledge base with a clear specialization.

The subject is open admission, i.e. anyone can enroll in the program regardless of their Abitur grade. In the first two semesters, students must show whether they are up to the demanding course of study. Those who are sure - "Business, that's my thing." - their performance at school will not stand in their way.

If you want to get involved besides your studies, the student organizations such as the student initiative ADF WiWi e.V., the student council, AISEC or the student stock exchange forum as well as working as a student assistant or tutor offer you the opportunity to actively participate in a lively campus.
