Enrollment as of winter semester 2024/25!
Structure of the bachelor's program Digital Business & Data Science at the University of Würzburg as of WS2024/25
The basis of the program (1st - 3rd semester) is formed by methodological & application skills in the areas of data science & machine learning algorithms, optimization & decision support, data management, programming and econometrics. Through subject-specific introductory lectures in selected areas of business administration and economics, students also gain insights into the more advanced specializations, which serves as an orientation for the choice of majors in the specialization phase.
The fundamentals taught are deepened by business skills with a focus on digital business from the third semester onwards. According to their individual preferences, students choose two of the four offered specializations: Marketing & Innovation (MAIN), Finance & Accounting (FACT), IT & Operations (ITOP) and Economics (ECON). In addition, students acquire competencies in teamwork and the application of the learned data science methods to practice-oriented problems in the mandatory "Applied Data Science Project".
The program "Digital Business & Data Science" addresses people who are interested in data processing, analytical and optimizing methods as well as digital business models and business systems and at the same time want to complete a solid and comprehensive education in economics. It is therefore aimed at prospective students at the interface of the fields of economics, business informatics and artificial intelligence / data science. The goal of the bachelor's program is, on the one hand, direct entry into extremely forward-looking professional fields and, on the other hand, preparation for a variety of advanced master's degree programs.
Both the comprehensive training in the field of digital methods and the possibility of a targeted in-depth study of economic contents (in the fields of Marketing & Innovation, Finance & Accounting, IT & Operations as well as Economics) distinguish this program from alternative programs such as "Economics", "Business Informatics", "Digital Economy" or "Data Science".

In the age of digital transformation, there is a continuous and high demand for well-qualified specialists who are needed for digitization projects as well as for tasks related to the intelligent processing of large amounts of data. The "Digital Business and Data Science" degree program prepares students for management tasks at the interface between business and IT, such as those required in the following career profiles:
- Data Scientists
- Data/Business Analysts
- Data Science/Machine Learning Product Manager
Likewise, graduates are prepared for specialized careers in fields such as marketing, innovation, finance, accounting, economics, supply chain management, and other areas where data-based management methods are applied.
In addition to the possible career entry, graduates are qualified for further master degree programs in the course of their studies. At Julius Maximilian University, for example, it is possible to continue studies in the master's programs "Management", "Information System" and "International Economic Policy". In general, master's degree programs that focus on information-processing and data-analytical methods and/or on the development and design of digital business models are particularly suitable.
Studying abroad is not only a good opportunity to get to know the people, culture and language of another country - it is also very valuable for the academic education as well as for the personal development of the students.
Studying at a foreign university is therefore actively encouraged by the Faculty of Business Management and Economics. For example, students receive support through:
- an information event at the beginning of each semester
- a dedicated contact person at the faculty for study abroad: Michaela Briglmeir
- individual advice in the search for a suitable partner university
- tips for finding an apartment
Best of all: after prior consultation and review, many courses taken abroad can be recognized within the Bachelor of Digital Business & Data Science.
You can find more information about studying abroad on the International page.
