WiWi Fakultät: What made you decide to study economics and where did you do your bachelor's degree?

Pietro Fasoli: I did my bachelor’s degree at the University of Verona, in a course called Economia e Commercio (Economics and Business). After finishing my bachelor's degree, I evaluated several possibilities for my Master's degree. I therefore enrolled in Economics and Data Analysis, also at the University of Verona. I was looking for a course with an international vocation, entirely taught in English, which would allow me to study the subjects I had most enjoyed in my bachelor's degree (economics subjects), and at the same time have a background in data analysis, a factor that is increasingly central and in demand in the job market. Once enrolled, I took the opportunity to participate in the new double degree project with the University of Würzburg, which turned out to be an excellent decision. I spent the entire second year of my Master's degree in Germany in the beautiful city of Würzburg, where I continued studying economics, and I have come to know, appreciate and embrace German culture.

WiWi Fakultät: What made you decide to do your (Master's) degree programme at JMU in Würzburg?

Pietro Fasoli: As already mentioned, I participated in a double degree project between the two universities of Verona and Würzburg, so I chose the city for this reason. Although I did not know Würzburg when I applied, I certainly fell in love with it by living there for more than a year.

WiWi Fakultät: What do you think characterises the JMU Faculty of Business and Economics?

Pietro Fasoli: I think the university is very well organised, with lots of space for us students. Clearly my judgement is made in comparison with the other university I know, that of Verona. I felt quite connected to the professors right from the start. I found them very open to dialogue and giving advice, something that sometimes does not happen in Italy. I must say, moreover, that the organisations that the university funds for us international students, such as the buddy programme, work really well. In addition to the nice events they organised, I met wonderful people with whom I am still in touch.

WiWi Fakultät: What are your plans for the future?

Pietro Fasoli: In the short term, I also have to graduate from the University of Verona. On the 07/12 I will have to present and defend my thesis in front of the Verona commission. Once I have done this last exam, I will have finished my journey as a student at the two universities. As for afterwards, I am currently interviewing for jobs. I would like to find a job that will allow me to continue my experience abroad, perhaps in Germany, and that will allow me to combine the two macro areas I have studied, namely economics and data analysis.

WiWi Fakultät: What experience during your time at university do you particularly remember?

Pietro Fasoli: There are indeed many experiences that I remember with pleasure, as for me it was not just doing a master's degree but doing it abroad with a different culture, places and people. I have one memory for winter and one for summer. I associate winter in Würzburg with the Christmas markets, with the cold German weather around me, and the warmth of Glühwein in my hands. For summer I remember afternoons spent on the river less playing board games and bathing in the river, as well as all the dinners I cooked for my friends and staying up late talking and laughing.
